GREAT News In
PORT HARCOURT!
From Phyllis:
On May 30th, Saturday, we drove to Ikot Ekpe, to visit Hope Academy, the first school I worked in here in Nigeria. I asked Superintendent Odu if we could worship with him on Sunday, and he suggested the new church plant in Uyo. He told us to meet him at the Ekom Iman Junction in Uyo, and he’d direct us to the church plant in Ikot Oku Ikono. So, at 9 am, Sunday we were at the Ekom Iman Junction, met Supt. Odu and went together to the church.
It was a wonderful service in a tiny, zinc-sided building, with only nine of us in attendance! But it didn’t matter! ‘For where two or three gather in My Name, there am I with them.’ Matthrew 18:20. When the pastor began sharing the message, I knew God had brought me here to this little church plant for a purpose. Pastor preached from the Book of Esther, relating the story of how God used Esther, gave her favor before King Ahasuerus of Persia, to deliver her people, the Jews, from a sure genocide. He spoke of the importance of preparation, strategic planning, fasting and prayer, and how that faith and prayer, planning, brought about the result that was needed.
Pastor asked us to unite, fast and pray for the challenges that the new month of June may hold. He asked us to fast, to trust and believe, and we would surely see God’s answer to our prayers. And so I began fasting and praying for the Government of Rivers State to give us the go-ahead, after 15 months of waiting, to begin work on our 99 hectares of land. This land will be a permanent home for our beloved Fulani friends, Mogodi and his people. And I believed with all my heart that God WOULD answer my prayers!
GUESS WHAT!!!?? God heard our prayers! PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE GOD!! HE HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! God has answered our prayers. Schools For Africa has permission from Rivers State Government to start working on our 245 acres in Port Harcourt! After 16 months of waiting, we can FINALLY begin. Finally. We are truly celebrating!
Please pray for the safety of our team, and the Fulani families who will settle there. Like many places all over Nigeria, the community is not welcoming of Fulani people and their cattle. We will have to prove to the locals that we will be WONDERFUL neighbors. We hope to bless them, their families, and their children. We are trusting God to move mightily in this place!
House of Mercy Progress!
Remember the House of Mercy FM Church in Lokoja? Building is seriously in progress! Hallelujah!! The new building is going up around the old one; the old one will be dismantled at some point soon! Thank you, Lord!

Mission Aviation Fellowship in Nigeria
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) was founded after World War II when a group of Christian airmen felt called to utilize their aviation skills to spread the gospel. In 1946, Betty Greene, a former Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP), took the first flight to deliver missionaries to Mexico.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. In 1956, MAF pilot Nate Saint and four other missionaries lost their lives while trying to share Christ’s love with the Waorani tribe in Ecuador. Today, many members of this tribe follow Jesus. In fact, some of the individuals who participated in the attack later baptized the missionaries’ children in the very river where they speared the missionaries.
Incredible stories like this emerge every day as MAF serves in countries across Africa, Asia, and South America—opening doors for isolated people to experience the life-changing love of Jesus.
You may have heard that Mission Aviation Fellowship is opening a new program in Nigeria after sensing the Lord’s call. “Nigeria is dealing with an insurgency in the north, Islamic terrorism, a secessionist movement in the south, and criminal gangs,” said MAF president David Holsten. “This makes moving around the country dangerous, while poor roads make travel arduous and time-consuming. God calls MAF to places like this.”
Entering a new country takes a lot of work: paperwork, people, and planes are all needed. Thanks to the generous donation of a 2025 Cessna Caravan from Samaritan’s Purse - named November 921 Whiskey Tango - we’re on the way to finishing the final “P” in that list. But just because we have an airplane doesn’t mean it’s time to fly in the field - it still needs to be MAF-ready, meaning it needs updates like:
Modifications for rugged airstrip operations
V2 track systems for flight tracking
A fourth “P” is needed before we begin serving in Nigeria: prayer. Will you pray with us as we follow God’s leading into the country?
